Mercedes’ G class might not be known for its looks, but it does offer pretty much everything else, sometimes in larger quantities too. 2015 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6×6 is the special edition of this rugged, boxy SUV-pickup which, as its name states, offers 6-wheel drive.
It was presented in Dubai, and promptly sold out, but German luxury brand will certainly think of something, for there are those that stood in line and never got the chance to buy one of 100 of these. This vehicle is the second most expensive model from Mercedes, SLS Electric is only more expensive.
Under the Hood
Being AMG G63 in its base, truck is paired with 5.5L twin-turbo V8 engine which is well-capable to deliver 544 hp and 560 lb-ft of torque. Moreover, it gets the same 7-speed automatic transmission which routes all this power evenly to all three axles. 30 percent goes to both front and rear axles, while 40 percent of power ends up in the middle. As you can to see, this monster doesn’t have any barrier. Performance are impressive, especially off-road terms.
Design – Inside and Outside look
2015 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6×6 features the same overall design as its role model SUV, but it has a different body nonetheless. Circular headlamps and neat stripe-star grille are ever-present, and so are turn signals upon the edges of the hood. Wheel arches have been revised and pickup offers more pronounced, separated fenders in contrasting color, both up front and at the rear where fenders encompass both wheels in a single motion. Colors, however have been in short supply as Mercedes decided to offer G63 6×6 in white and matte gray exclusively.

In any case, everything would seem to be the same as in G-wagen, apart from the rear end, more or less. Being a truck, differences between it and the SUV are obvious. After long-enough bed, G63 6×6 comes away with rather awkward, high tailgate which has couple of horizontal tail-lights that further elevate it, visually.
Being quite a heavy vehicle, Mercedes tried their best to compensate some of the weight gains by introducing carbon fiber dash. However, diamond-quilted leather seats, door panels and dashboard covers do exactly the opposite, so why bother. In any case, both available models offer premium luxury in their red-black-white or black-brown cabins.
Space is in abundance and rear passengers can really stretch themselves, and even get their own separation cluster with remote control for entertainment system. Needless to say, 2015 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6×6 offers pretty much everything one needs to enjoy the ride and comes with some special upgrades, currently not available in the SUV version.
2015 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6×6 Price
Being over four tons heavy and having bi turbo V8 engine, it is obvious that G63 6×6 requires a lot of fuel to run. However, €379,000 price tag doesn’t really attract buyers that care about fuel consumption. They are well enough on their own and can easily cope with low fuel economy figures. In any case, all 100 or so models have been sold anyway.
2015 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6×6 is somewhat of an Easter egg that came from German brand and promptly disappeared due to a sellout. They wanted the vehicle to remain special and thus discontinued it, but it gave them some well needed experience and confidence which makes us believe that similar vehicle is already being worked upon.
