2015 Nissan Qashqai, a compact 5-door crossover just entered its second generation this year. 2015 year model of this SUV will be carried over and offered in various European, South African and Australian markets. Unlike the previous model, there are changes and improvement, when we talk about design, especially inside.
Performance and Engine range
Depending on a market, it is available in many different trim levels and with as many powertrain options. UK version is offered in four grades called Visia, Acenta, Acenta Premium and Tekna. They come with three different powertrains, one petrol and two diesel ones. Base petrol engine is 1.2L turbocharged I4 which delivers 113 hp and 140 lb-ft of torque. 1.5L diesel I4 engine develops 108 hp and 192 lb-ft of torque, while the strongest British powertrain, 1.6L diesel I4 has 128 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque. Most of the models are available in FWD, while upper tiers come in 4WD as well. 6-speed manual transmission is standard across the lineup. Australian models have different powertrains including 1.6L turbo I4 petrol and 2.0L I4 petrol with available CVT automatic transmission.
2015 Nissan Qashqai Design – Inside and Outside
Wherever they are sold, Qashqai’s look the same, at least from the outside. They all have Nissan’s trademark V-shape grille and hood with open-mouth lower air intake and sharp angular headlights. Out back, thick pillars impede on visibility, but arrowtip tail-lights and a roofline spoiler somewhat fix the impression of a generic tailgate.
Qashqai is among the leaders in class when it comes to cabin refinement. Its cabin isn’t only upscale, it is also quite spacious for a compact SUV. While lower trims do tend to look a little bit basic, upper grades offer a wide set of luxurious-like upholstery and features. Dashboard is quite sturdy for a compact crossover and might rob you of some legroom. All models come with a standard 5-inch high definfition full color TFT screen, while Acenta models add leather covered steering wheel and shift knob. Acenta premium further adds panoramic glass roof with one-touch shade, and Visia comes with leather cabin and seat trim.
Safety options and Fuel Economy
All models have standard driver, passenger, side and curtain airbags, stability control, ABS, electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist, and hill start assist, while Acenta Premium adds lane departure warning, forward emergency braking and parking sensors.
Qashqai will give you the class leading fuel economy ratings if you decide to get it with 1.5L diesel engine. 40 mpg combined is really no mean feat, and 1.6L powertrain will return similar numbers. Most inefficient engine is 1.2L turbo petrol one which should take you some 30 mpg or more on average.
2015 Nissan Qashqai Price
British models cost between £18,000 for a base Visia with petrol engine and £28,000 for 1.6L diesel Tekna model in 4WD which is roughly between $30,000 and $47,000.
Being a compact SUV, Qashqai might be a little expensive, especially if you are looking for higher grades. However, it offers excellent fuel economy ratings and upscale cabin refinement which you wouldn’t find even in higher marketed cars.
