X4 compact executive crossover has been introduced last year, and it already gets addition to the lineup. 2016 BMW X4 M40i is performance-oriented version of the crossover which means that it offers larger powertrain with better specs. Still, that’s not all that it offers, as some differences are going to be evident.
Under the Hood
Let’s start with the center piece, though. New X4 will be moved around by M-division’s own 3.0L turbocharged V6 engine which generates up to 370 horsepower. Moreover, performance edition will get specially tuned suspension and stronger brakes, along with other tuning tweaks. Expect the coupe crossover to achieve 62 mph from standstill in less than 6 seconds, and a top speed of over 150 mph.
But, we expect a lot of details next month, about performance and specs, and the first features from test driving. Unfortunately, nowadays, only these details are available.
Design – Inside and Outside look
2016 BMW X4 M40i carries over base model’s midsection, but gets some styling tweaks up front and around the back. Differences will mostly be seen in car’s bumpers and possibly special grille. Otherwise, BMW’s recognizable frontal fascia and rear end’s angular finish will be carried over. Together with styling and performance tweaks, Bavarians will most likely throw in a special paint package, and similar can be expected inside as well.
As mentioned, interior of a new X4 M40i should distinguish itself from regular model’s inside. This will most likely be achieved by some sporty design implementations and introduction of performance-friendly materials such as aluminum and carbon fiber. Rest of the cabin covers will mostly be made out of wood and, of course, leather. General interior design should be carried over. Dashboard is already designed in accordance with BMW’s next-gen view, and unlike the most of German models, 2016 BMW X4 M40i doesn’t get the popping touch screen display.
Instead, dash-mounted display and touch controller do the job. Navigation is standard, and so are most of connectivity features that can be imagined. Heated and ventilated seats can be ordered, and so can be premium tablet DVD rear seat entertainment system and premium audio system. Former consists of two 7-inch monitors attached to the headrest posts, while latter consists of 11 Harman Kardon surround speakers.
Apart from mandatory safety options which include anti-lock brakes, stability control and all airbags you might need, X4 offers some advanced electronic safety systems as well. These include front and rear parking sensors, forward collision warning, lane-departure warning and surround view cameras.
2016 BMW X4 M40i Price and MPG
Turbo six engine from base X4 is rated at 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway which accumulates to 22 mpg combined. All the extra power in X4 M40i will take its toll, and lower the fuel economy figures with it. Thus, sport version of the coupe crossover should be rated at around 20 mpg combined. Oh, and its price should start from some $55,000 which is some $10,000 more than what entry-level model costs.
The main rivals are: Porsche Macan, Audi SQ5 and classically edition, BMW X4.
2016 BMW X4 M40i is the model which should make X4’s handling and performance even sportier than it currently is. That is no mean feat since the coupe crossover is one of the nimblest and fastest cars in its niche as it is.
