2016 Buick Avenir Concept

New luxury sedan coming, 2016 Buick Avenir. The current cars Buick has on the market are mainly GM based models which offer a slightly higher level of comfort or are just re-branded European models which is a bit disappointing considering they were one of the most important luxury car manufacturers in the World.

However, this is likely to change with the introduction of the 2016 Buick Avenir Concept, an Australian designed luxury car which is said to make Buick the car maker it once was. While it is just a concept for now, it will most likely set the trend for the cars Buick is going to release in the future.

Unlike the other models in the current range, the Avenir is a car designed from ground up and built manually by a handful of people. Thanks to this, it is the most luxurious car Buick has ever made to date. You would expect it not to go into production considering it is a concept to show what Buick is capable of but considering how many good reviews it received as well as the reactions from the critics, we can safely assume that the Avenir is going to be put into production in a couple of years.

Exterior and Interior – description

On the exterior, the 2016 Buick Avenir Concept is unique to say the least. All the panels on the car as well as most of the aluminum inserts have been made by hand which puts it in the same class with the Phantom or even some Bentley cars. The lines flow uninterrupted and all the panels blend together for an amazing look.

Everything on the car is made out of pure aluminum and glass meaning that there are no cheap plastic bumpers or headlights. The tail lights include aluminum mirrors while the glass on the car is scratch and shatter proof. The 22 inch wheels are likely to not come on the base model but mainly because they are milled from a single piece of solid aluminum.

Its interior is no different either. The Avenir features only the most exquisite materials used in the car industry to date. The upholstery is going to be made out of leather and suede while the trimmings as well as most of the buttons from solid aluminum in order to offer the best possible experience out there. While most other luxury cars offer 5 seats, the Avenir only offers 4 because Buick thinks that a real luxury car only needs 4 extremely comfortable seats.

Under the Hood

One thing that is unknown so far is the engine in the 2016 Buick Avenir Concept and this is mostly because GM doesn’t really have an engine to power it. We assume that they are going to develop an engine suited for it which would most likely be a hybrid powertrain that would offer the required smoothness for a luxury car. We think that this might be a 3.6 liter twin-turbocharged V6 coupled to a pair of electric motors and a set of batteries for a total power of more than 500 hp and 550 lb-ft of torque.

This engine would then be coupled to a 9 speed automatic and a rear wheel drive transmission which would offer the performance as well as the quietness and smoothness required for a luxury car. A V12 developed from the current modular V6 engine is also a possibility but it is just a rumor for now.

When it comes to performance, estimated time for 60 mph is around 6.5 seconds. Also, top speed is about 155 mph. At the first look, these  features are good, but we can expect a lot of more.

2016 Buick Avenir Price and Release date

The actual release date is unknown but it might come on the market by the end of 2018, meaning that there is plenty of time to develop and engine suitable for such a car. The price isn’t known but considering how luxurious it is, the production model might cost in excess of 60.000 dollars or even more than that.

But, at the other hand, main rivals are Kia K900 and new Lexus GS F.
