The new supercar, 2016 Dodge Viper Roadster brings better features than previous edition. After a short hiatus during recession years, Dodge had started making their iconic sports car Viper again in 2012.
Since last year, Fiat also has something to say in all this and Viper’s lineup is heading towards refresh. 2016 Dodge Viper Roadster is one of the new additions to its lineup and will be a fine refreshment by itself.
2016 Dodge Viper Roadster Drivetrain options
2016 Dodge Viper Roadster will round up already rich lineup which stretches from base SRT to top GTS and special edition TA (Time Attack) models. No matter which one of these you choose, you’ll get the same gigantic 8.4L V-10 SFI engine which develops 645 hp and 600 lb-ft of torque. Rear-wheel drive is also the only option, and so is conventional 6-speed manual transmission.
Thanks to that, Viper is able to reach top speed of 206 mph and 0 to 60 time in 3.3 seconds. There’s no need mentioning that new Roadster version will follow these guidelines as well.
Design – Inside and Outside look
Mild refresh will bring some changes to Dodge’s exterior but neither we expect too many of them, nor we have an exact idea what kind of changes will that be. Maybe some updates to front and rear bumper, new colorways or new set of wheels, but apart from that, 2016 Dodge Viper Roadster will keep its dramatic design. However, as its name suggests, Roadster will offer long sought-for convertibles and up the ante further. Now, Viper is already quite expensive car, but at least this way people will know what they are paying for.
Just like new Viper Roadster is supposed to keep current lineup’s exterior design (albeit with minor changes), it will keep the interior layout as well. Viper’s cabin is lavishly decorated and features plenty of overproportioned leather-covered details. Seats, dashboard, and especially middle tunnel are rather large for this type of car. In turn, they don’t leave much space for anything else, but they really look good. Contrasting stitches are also a good call and they somewhat neutralize mentioned materials inflation.
Instrument panel is wholly leather bound and hides 8.4-inch HD touch screen display which serves as infotainment interface. Rest of feature list is pretty much straightforward. As expensive sports car, Viper includes all possible connectivity options, together with few, but not many, active safety systems. This is still a speeding roadster, after all.
2016 Dodge Viper Roadster Price & MPG
With the type of powertrain that Viper has, extremely poor fuel economy ratings don’t really come as a surprise. 2016 Dodge Viper Roadster won’t change a thing in this department and should be rated at the same 12 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway. If you push the car to its limits, even those 15 mpg combined will be hard to achieve. Current lineup costs between $85,000 and $110,000 which makes us believe that roadsters will cost around $5,000 to $10,000 more from the get-go.
2016 Dodge Viper Roadster is a fast, aggressive car with great exterior design and even better interior. However, its outdated powertrain hinders it in achieving excellence in plenty of other areas including more and more important, fuel efficiency.
