Hennessey unveils the latest monster, named 2016 Hennessey Venom GT. The Venom GT is one of the fastest production cars in the World and it even held the record for the fastest production model for a brief amount of time. While most people thought the car was dead after the American company stated that the plan a new car with the F5, it seems that the car has a bit of life left in it.
In fact, they even released at the Sema Auto Show the 2016 Hennessey Venom GT which comes with a more powerful engine as well as slight changes to its electronics that should make it faster not just in a straight line.
Specs & Performance
Engine wise, the 2016 Hennessey Venom GT makes use of the same 7 liter twin-turbocharged V8 as before. This time though the internals have been modified in order to allow the car to run safely on E85. On top of that, its turbochargers offer around 7 PSI more boost which may not sound like much but this translates in a total output of 1451 horsepower and more than 1000 lb-ft of torque. All of this is sent to the rear wheels via a 6 speed manual gearbox which has been co-developed with Ricardo quite some time ago.
The official numbers provided by Hennessey report that the new Venom GT will hit 60 MPH in 2.4 seconds which is not that impressive for the power it has. However, this is because it is rear wheel drive only. The great part is that it hits 100 MPH in 4.4 seconds and it can run a quarter of a mile in just 9.4 seconds, faster than any other production car. The top speed has been reported to be 280 MPH which is a bit too optimistic in our opinion but with mild tweaks, the car might have what it takes to beat the Veyron Super Sport.
An even more powerful version could also be offered at a later date for a very limited time, but this will likely be manufactured as a collector’s edition and not like a car intended for driving, so it may not even be available for sale.
|Horsepower @ RPM||1451 @ 7200|
|0-60 time||2.4 sec.|
|Quarter Mile time||9.4 sec.|
|Top Speed||280 mph|
|0-100 time||4.4 sec.|
|Quarter Mile speed||167 mph|
Design – more aggressive sporty styling
The exterior of the 2016 Hennessey Venom GT is identical to that of the 2011 model which in its turn it is based on that of the Lotus Exige. The chassis is very similar as well but the American firm worked quite a bit on the electronics of the new car. It now features a GPS based traction control system which will set the car up perfectly depending on what track it is driving. On top of that, this should be able to handle the extra power of the engine with more ease and it should minimize wheel-spin at high speeds, a problem with the older model.
The interior is more of the same, so while it does not offer anything new with the 2016 model, it does come with slightly better materials as well as better fittings. On top of that, the seats are better in terms of comfort and they should not pose a problem for those looking to get their Venom GT on longer trips.
2016 Hennessey Venom GT Price
Besides all of these though, the car is pretty much identical to the older model which is to be expected considering it is going to be replaced quite soon. The price for the updated car has not been released just yet but it is safe to assume that it will cost more than $1 million which easily makes it one of the most expensive cars on the market.
However, this particular model will only be offered in a handful of units because the company is going to focus on the newer and more impressive F5.
The biggest competitors are Bugatti Chiron and Koenigsegg One:1.
