The new turbo hatchback coming, 2016 Honda Civic Type R. After last year’s concept, Geneva Auto Show was chosen for the introduction of production friendly model of Honda’s fastest hatchback. 2016 Honda Civic Type R continues to be Europe-exclusive but this car is well-worthy of import as next few lines are about to prove.
Under the Hood & Specs
For starters, new performance-oriented compact hatch is powered by a turbocharged engine for the first time in its history. 2.0L turbo four makes superb 306 horsepower and 295 pound feet of torque. There is one downside, however as this model’s revving redline is down to 7,000 rpm. As was expected, front engine – front-wheel drive layout car only needs a 6-speed manual shifter and that’s only one it will get.
With all these specs, Civic Type R should be able to reach 0 to 60 in less than 6 seconds and top speed of 168 mph. Not bad at all for a compact hatch.
|Type||direct-injected turbocharged 2.0 litre VTEC TURBO|
|Output||306 HP @ 6.500 RPM|
|Torque||295 LB-FT @ 2.500 RPM|
|0-to-100 km/h (62 mph)||5.7 seconds|
|Top Speed||270 KM/H (167 MPH)|
Design – Inside and Outside look
As for its design, Type R is definitely more aggressive than its neat, but bland conventional siblings. First of all, it features red badge and pretty much every other detail in hottest color. Lower bumper line is red, disc calipers behind the wheels are red and rear bumper has some red stripes of its own. Auto show model features extremely sharp front fascia with laid-back headlights which was accomplished by lowering and sharpening the bumper.
There are thin air inlets just behind the black 19-inch wheels with red pinstripe. Rear end is very high thanks to a large wing spoiler which towers at the roofline’s height. Finally, already mentioned bumper is pretty sharp and boasts dual circular exhaust pipes from both sides.
Interior follows the same philosophy when red is concerned. Suede seats have plenty of red inserts on black background, and needless to say, stitches are colored as well. Dashboard features a thin red accent, while steering wheel itself gets some colorful movements. Even infotainment system is powered by a red theme instead of basic blue which can be seen in conventional models.
Cabin itself is pretty much carried over from the rest of the lineup, and so are available features which are offered in abundance. 2016 Honda Civic Type R gets premium sound system, dual-zone automatic climate control and navigation; all as standard. Safety features are rich as well and include standard parking sensors, forward-collision warning and lane-departure warning among other options.
2016 Honda Civic Type R Price
Don’t expect 2016 Honda Civic Type R to return the same fuel economy ratings as the rest of the line, but don’t expect it to be that fuel-consuming either. Its price probably won’t be lower than £30,000 which is a hefty price for compact hatch, even in Europe.
2016 Honda Civic Type R is definitely an exciting addition to both Honda’s lineup and performance-oriented cars’ lineup in general. This small hatchback boasts soaring figures in most categories which should allow it to beat much more illustrious opponents in a square-off race. However, Type R isn’t intended for the tracks, but for conventional buyers who need some excitement in their lives and new, red-hot Civic is here to comply.
