2016 Jaguar XJ Review

A few days ago, first photos of the new 2016 Jaguar XJ have been appeared. The XJ has always been Jaguar’s flagship and the current model makes no exception from that rule. It is a big imposing car which is not only as comfortable as it gets but also very fast by any standards.

While the 2014 model saw the introduction of a new engine which is not exactly what people call worthy of the Jaguar name, the 2016 Jaguar XJ will see further improvements and it will get a brand new engine which is said to boast the sales of the car by a big margin. From what it seems, the 2016 model is going to get an updated look with a slightly different body kit and a few changes at the back as well.

Estimated price and Rumors

Rumors about a facelift started to appear in the late 2013 with a few pictures of a prototype being shown in the last couple of months. It seems that this next generation XJ will still be using the same chassis and drivetrain as before but this time it will also get a few improvements under the hood. The price for this new XJ won’t change all that much with the base model starting at 66.000 dollars while a top of the range one will set you back more than 110.000 dollars, being one of the most expensive Jaguars ever.

Design – Inside and Outside look

On the interior, the 2016 Jaguar XJ can be described as minimalistic. The amount of physical buttons is kept to a minimum, most of the controls being handled by an 8 inch touch screen which was slow in the 2014 model but it is going to be upgraded in the 2016 one. Standard features include navigation, a 14 speaker audio system, satellite radio, front and rear parking sensors and a rear view camera. Options are going to be available on all the models for a bit of extra money. These include reclining rear seats with massage, ventilated seats, four-zone automatic climate control and even adaptive cruise control.

Its exterior on the other hand won’t change all that much when compared to the current model. From the early spy shots it seems that there will only be two changes to the design of the car. Firstly, the front bumper will receive a new pair of slimmer air intakes which will include the fog lamps while the back will get a different rear window with a slightly more curved look, similar to what the C6 from Citroen had a few years back.

2016 Jaguar XJ – Engine range

Under the hood of the 2016 Jaguar XJ things sit a lot differently than before. Firstly, the base engine is going to be a 2 liter turbocharged inline 4, but this time it will make up to 270 horsepower rather than just 240. Further up the range, a 3 liter supercharged V6 and a 5 liter aspirated V8 are going to be available. Power for these will be 340 and 385 horsepower respectively, and both of them will offer the same amount of torque, at 370 lb-ft of torque.

The 5 liter supercharged V8 on the F model will provide up to 550 horsepower and 502 lb-ft of torque which should be enough to get the car from 0 to 60 MPH in just 4.6 seconds. All the cars are going to be limited to 155 miles per hour while the supercharged V8 will keep going to up 180 miles per hour.

The news come in the form of a hybrid which should be available in the US at launch. This will use a 2 liter turbocharged inline 4 coupled to an electric motor. This will provide all wheel drive and a maximum power of 332 horsepower which is similar to the supercharged V6. The big plus is that it will use a lot less fuel than the V6, providing more than 33 MPG on average.
