The beast on the raod, new 2016 Jeep SRT Hellcat. After Chrysler 300 last year, Street and Racing Team have expanded their lineup of cars which now stretches across Dodges (Viper, Charger and Challenger) and Jeep Grand Cherokee. 2016 Jeep SRT Hellcat is the first SUV powered with Hellcat engine and arguably the most deserving car in its niche for such an honor.
2016 Jeep SRT Hellcat Engine & Specs
Instead of 6.4L HEMI V8 engine in SRT Grand Cherokee, Hellcat version gets 6.2L supercharged V8 engine which delivers almost 250 horsepower more. Its specs read somewhere around 700 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. This sheer power should make the Jeep one of the fastest SUV’s ever created. 0 to 62 in 4 seconds and top speed of 175 mph might not sound as good as some supercar’s figures, but don’t forget that the rugged SUV weighs more than 5,000 pounds.
Finally, all-wheel drive system and 8-speed TourqueFlite automatic transmission are written all over the 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Hellcat.
|Type and Description||Supercharged 6.2L HEMI® V-8; 90-degree V-type;liquid-cooled|
Design – Inside and Outside look
Design-wise, Hellcat version of Grand Cherokee won’t offer anything out of the ordinary compared to the regular model. Of course, some tweaks will have to be made. Hood and frontal fascia will have to be adapted a little in order to accomodate large supercharger underneath them, while rear end should get revised bumper thanks to different exhaust pipes. Moreover, SRT Hellcat models usually receive blacked out grille, and that’s precisely what’s in store for Jeep’s own Hellcat.
There most likely won’t be too many differences between regular SRT and Hellcat SRT models. Former ones currently sit atop the Grand Cherokee’s line, and Hellcats will dethrone them. Perforated leather and suede inserts should furbish the seats which will get the heating option in first and second row, together with ventilation in front row. 8.4-inch touch screen display remains responsible for infotainment purposes, while 9 speakers take the audion duty under their own wings.
Rear seat Blu-Ray/DVD player is optional together with 825-watt amplifier and 19 Harman Kardon speakers. There’s plenty of standard safety systems which include stability control, anti-lock brakes, hill-start assist, hill-descent control and trailer-sway control. Rearview camera is also standard with 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Hellcat, and so are parking sensors and blind-spot monitors. Finally, optional list includes adaptive radar cruise control and front-crash warning system.
2016 Jeep SRT Hellcat Price & MPG
If base SRT model is rated at 13 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway, we can only imagine what kind of figures SRT Hellcat will return. In any case, they won’t be better than these; they could only get worse. Price tag can also be discerned by looking at SRT trim level. It starts from $64,500 which makes us believe that Hellcat model might cost as much as $80,000.
2016 Jeep SRT Hellcat should further enrich the lineup of most rewarded SUV in history. It already offers a number of powertrain options, but this will be something different. Apart from the engine, Hellcat will offer unique exterior and interior trims, but in general, it should find itself on par with the current lineup leader; Grand Cherokee SRT.
