The 2016 Lexus GS F has been presented at Detroit Auto Show. Lexus is a well known manufacturer of luxury cars and not much else. The GS is actually their crown jewel in the present and it is one of the better cars out there which can easily compete with the European super sedans with ease.
However, being released back in 2013, the car aged quite a bit during these few years. Well, it is about time for it to receive a small facelift and to receive a high performance model which would allow it to compete with the M models from BMW as well as the RS models from Audi and other super sport cars from other manufacturers.
Design – small changes
On the exterior, the 2016 Lexus GS F will get a few changes over the base model. The most striking of them all is going to be the body kit and the specially made 19 inch wheels. The body kit will be lower as well as wider and it will feature bigger air intakes at the front and back for improved aerodynamics. The under-body of the car will be flat in order to get the same suction effect as on the high performance super cars. The back will get a quad exhaust system but this time with a lower angle which does make a nicer appearance than on the IS-F.
|Overall length||4.915 MM (193.5 Inches)|
|Overall width||1.845 MM (72.6 Inches)|
|Overall height||1.440MM (56.7 Inches)|
|Wheelbase||2.850 MM (112.2 Inches)|
|Tread (Fr/Rr)||1.555/1.560 MM (61.2/61.4 Inches)|
|Curb Weight||1.830 KG (4.034 LBS)|
Its interior will be identical to the normal GS but with two major differences. The upholstery is going to be made out of Alcantara leather and so it will be the steering wheel. The seats are also going to be different in order to offer better lateral support as well as more ways of adjusting which should make for quite a comfortable and safe ride.
2016 Lexus GS F Price details
Unlike other models in Lexus’s range, the GS-F will get a more integrated structure than the IS and the RC, meaning that the total weight will only be around 70 pounds higher than the above models. These are great news for all those people worrying that the GS-F will be bad on the track. In fact, this model is expected to drive even better than the smaller models from Lexus thanks to a different suspension system which allows the car to stay flat even in the tightest corners. The release date for the new super sport model is going to be at the end of 2015 and the car will come at a base price no higher than 90.000 dollars which is pretty much the highest price in its class.
The Engine range
The engine in the 2016 Lexus GS F is going to be the same engine as in the other super cars from Lexus. This is a 5 liter aspirated V8 which can rev to as much as 8500 rpm which is insanely high for an engine this size. Thanks to the revving engine of this engine, it can provide as much as 467 horsepower and 389 lb-ft of torque which is a lot less than the competition but this is because Lexus wanted a more pure approach to the entire driving experience.
All of its rivals are good for more than 550 horsepower but the Lexus makes up with its character. The car is able to hit 60 MPH in less than 4.3 seconds and it can accelerate up to 175 miles per hour and even beyond that thanks to being unlimited, unlike its main rivals.
|Output||467 HP @ 7.100 RPM|
|Peak torque||389 LB-FT @ 4.800-5.600 RPM|
The major drawback of this engine is the fact that it isn’t exactly fuel efficient, offering around 19 MPG on average. The good part though is the fact that it does feel incredibly good at high rpm, being able to sustain all that power with ease. The engine is going to be mated to the same 8 speed automatic as on the other F models in Lexus’s range.
In offer Lexus will launch a four model: Eco, Normal, Sport and Sport S+ edition. GS F brings better design, better performance and better features. The key competitors are: Infiniti Q70 ($64,350) and BMW M5 (price starts from 93,000 dollars).
