In fall this year coming new 2016 Lexus RX 350. The RX was one of the best selling luxury crossovers as well as one of the best on the market but it started to lose in the favor of the newer cars such as the Porsche Macan or even Audi Q5 or the BMW X4.
The newer generation is expected to be a massive rework of the model, meaning that it will feature a new platform, new engines as well as a new styling which is not only going to better fit the current Lexus range but it is also going to make it that much more attractive for customers.
We know so far that the 2016 Lexus RX 350 is going to look a lot more aggressive than before. It will also feature a similar platform to the new generation RAV4 which in essence is a modular platform also used for a few other models from Toyota. This would allow Lexus to drop prices even more to be more competitive as well as keep the high level of comfort the current car has.
The Engine range
Even if Lexus hasn’t announced what engines the RX is going to get it is safe to assume that these are going to be vastly better than before. The base 2016 Lexus RX 350 is most likely going to drop the current 3.5 liter V6 which is not only inefficient but it is also quite down on power when compared to the other cars in this class. The most possible successor would be the brand new 2 liter turbocharged engine which was developed together with BMW.
This would provide as much as 280 to 300 horsepower and more than 300 lb-ft of torque which is more than before. Not only that but the fuel consumption is expected to improved by at least 30% thanks to the turbocharged nature of it.
The transmission coupled to it will also most likely be a new 9 speed automatic which will power the all wheel drive system as standard. A front wheel drive model might be skipped all together but this might increase the base price.
Its performance will be on par with the rest of the cars in this class. Expect a 0 to 60 time of less than 6 seconds and a limited top speed of around 130 MPH. These features are very good for one big crossover, like RX 350.
2016 Lexus RX 350 Redesign
But enough with what’s going to be under the hood of the new RX. Its exterior is just as important and considering the latest spy shots a few photographers provided, we are more excited than even about the release of a crossover. Why? Well, because Lexus took the old design, scrapped it and started from scratch. The proportions of the new car are a lot more aggressive while the front end does look a bit like that of the RC. All of these add up for a very handsome car, even though it’s still camouflaged. It looks wider, shorter as well as a bit longer, meaning that interior space should also increase slightly.
Speaking of the interior, the 2016 Lexus RX 350 is going to be updated and it will most likely borrow design elements as well as a few extras from the IS sedan. On top of that, the steering response is most likely going to be improved while the driving position will be changed in order to offer more feedback in order to offer a more pleasing driving experience than before.
2016 Lexus RX 350 Price and Release date
The release date has been announced to be at the start of 2016 for the concept and late 2016 for the production model. The price is expected to drop to under 40.000 dollars which would make it a killer deal considering most of its rivals cost at least 45.000 dollars! Traditionally, RX model is one of the best selling vehicles, in their class. Car shoppers expecting a lot of more, every year.
