The new 2016 Mazda 2 is very good city car. Many thought that offering Mazda 2 in the U.S. will be a wrong move, including the Japanese themselves. However, it turned out to be a success, and the subcompact car has found a niche of its own. 2016 Mazda 2 has been redesigned which shows the commitment level and intention by Japanese badge to continue offering it in the states.
Under the Hood
Demio, which is its name overseas, is powered by duo of 1.5L 4-cylinders (one petrol and one diesel), and 1.3L 4-cylinder petrol option. Future North American powertrains are still unknown to us, but at least 1.5L 4-cylinder gasoline unit should make it. Incidentally, that’s the exact engine which was offered in outgoing model. Diesel option would also be welcome, and so would be a stronger petrol one as well. Whatever the Japanese choose in the end, expect it to be tied to either 6-speed manual or automatic transmission.

|Type||1.5-liter SKYACTIV-D diesel engine|

Design – Inside and Outside look
Like most of the cars before it, Mazda 2 is also beginning to grow in size. However slight increase in length (and weight) it is, that’s still an increase. Japanese models are almost 6.5 inches longer overall, and 1 inch higher. Design-wise, 2016 Mazda 2 looks great, but that’s just how every other Mazda vehicle looks like. It is, arguably, one of the handsomest little cars out there thanks to its pentagonal grille segment and laid-back headlights. Of course, supermini looks great around the back as well where it features a small tailgate, signature tail-lights and a sturdy bumper.
Interior is yet another segment where this subcompact excels. Since the car has been enlarged, it now offers abundance of room (hard to imagine for a subcompact). Cabin design is another plus for Mazda 2. Sporty dashboard is simple which is the best thing for small cars, and features trio of circular airvents. There are only a few controls scattered across the middle tunnel, while tablet-like display pops out of the dash upon vehicle’s startup.
You can still get 2016 Mazda 2 with leather-trimmed seats and cloth door covers if you go for Touring model instead of basic Sport version. For such a small car, Mazda 2 offers adequate feature list which includes 12-volt power outlet, USB input port, 4 or 6 speakers and optional Bluetooth technology. Safety features are supposed to be the most upgraded category as they will include blind-spot monitors, lane departure warning and a rear cross-traffic alert.
2016 Mazda 2 Price and Release date
Fuel economy ratings should be kept in range even with additional length and weight. Manual gearbox is supposed to be rated at 29 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway, while automatic shifter will lower the figures by a point. Possible diesel center piece would be even better, but everything else would lower the grades. What’s so good about Mazda 2 is the fact that it costs less than $15,000 in its base form, while Touring models cost around $16,500.
2016 Mazda 2 is intended for commuter population. It is highly nimble and fun to drive around the city, and you won’t have any trouble parking it. Moreover, it looks great, both on the inside and outside, and costs little to begin with.
