2016 Mazda Miata

The latest model 2016 Mazda Miata, has been finally presented. Mazda Miata, also branded as MX-5 is one of the most iconic lightweight roadsters present in the markets. Miata is one of the best-selling coupe cars in history.

25 years of production are just another proof of this statement and this 2-door convertible doesn’t intend to stop here. Recently announced fourth generation models are bound to roll out of the factory floors in late 2015 as 2016 year models. The new Miata is full redesigned, and that is the biggest changes.

Under the Hood

While overseas markets are most likely going to get a choice between 1.5L and 2.0L 4-cylinder engines, US market won’t have that luxury. The only available option will be familiar 2.0L Skyactiv 4-cylinder found in Mazda 3 and Mazda CX-5. It should deliver around 150 hp and 155 lb-ft of torque which is actually less than in Miata’s predecessor, but since 2016 Mazda Miata is going to be some 200 pounds lighter, power loss really shouldn’t matter.

After all, Japanese engineers might tweak the powertrain for a slightly bigger output, we shall see. 6-speed manual transmission should be a lot of fun, and rear-wheel drive configuration will allow for familiar ride quality.

As far as acceleration, thic coupe hits max speed at 130 mph, and time for the first 60 mph is not good. Because of that, this is one of the disadvantages. Miata 60 mph reaches for less than 60 mph.

Styling – Inside and Outside look

2016 Mazda Miata is redesigned from top to bottom. It is now much more curved and seems lower. Downward-spiraling hoodline features open-mouth oval grille and flared fenders with small headlamps at their roots. Two-seater offers just enough room for its driver and passenger and is finished promptly with curved overhang and singular round tail-lights.

Length     154.1 inches

Interior is compact and neat with dashboard being moved towards the front. Seats are divided into cockpit-like position and between them, you get a small armrest, handbrake, shifter and some controls. What instantly catches the eye is the fact that handbrake is positioned closer to the steering wheel than the shift knob which might get slightly awkward.

Like before, seats will either be trimmed in cloth or leather upholstery, and heating option should be available with latter ones. Floating touch screen display pops out at car start and displays all relevant info while helping with audio controls and available navigation. Gauge cluster will be quite rich and should be highly visible behind a small three-spoke wheel.

Unlike before, Bluetooth hands free should become standard, but the audio system won’t feature more than 7 speakers. Front and side impact airbags will be standard, together with anti-lock brakes, brake-force distribution, dynamic stability and traction control system.

2016 Mazda Miata Price and MPG

By being lighter and seemingly more aerodynamic, 2016 Mazda Miata might receive a fuel efficiency bump. It’ll most likely be rated at around 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway, or even better. Since it needs to remain competitive, expect prices to drop a little and new MX-5 Miata should be available for between $25,000 and $30,000. This car will be available at the market in second quarter 2015. If we look the other rivals, this price is not cheap. There are cheaper competitors and choice.

5 biggest rivals are: Audi TT roadster, Mini convertible roadster, BMW Z4, Nissan 370z and Subaru BRZ.

2016 Mazda Miata is finally redesigned and redesigned it is indeed. It features completely new sheetmetal with striking design and even more curves than before. Interior is changed, but doesn’t offer any special treats in general. Available features could have been more diverse, but they are still a solid fit and new Miata should be more fuel-efficient, which is something that every car craves for these days. But, as conclusion, we can say that is very good coupe, who brings good performance and features.
