New supercar, 2016 McLaren P1 GTR will be presented at Geneva Auto Show. The P1 managed to make a lot of people interested in it thanks to then newly developed technology and extreme performance coming from a hybrid car.
However, after it was launched there have been a few other cars which could take the crown from it. The 2016 McLaren P1 GTR is their answer to all of its competitors. It is meant to be a track only car which will make more power than the base model, it will be lighter as well as faster and from what we managed to find out so far, it seem that it will be a test bed for McLaren’s new technology.
Design – Interior and Exterior
Its interior will be nothing like the original car and that is because McLaren wanted something a lot less distracting. They got rid of the satellite navigation unit as well as the dual zone climate control system. In its place there is now a normal air conditioning and no satellite navigation unit but rather a lightweight panel with buttons for the car’s different functions. The seats are now made from kevlar and carbon fiber with fireproof upholstery and it also has an integrated carbon fiber roll-cage.
The exterior of the 2016 McLaren P1 GTR on the other hand is quite similar to the usual car but it has a few added features to it. The wheels and tires and a lot lighter as well as more durable and the car sits lower as well thanks to a new fixed suspension system which can be adjusted in different ways to make the car respond better. At the back the retractable rear spoiler has been changed to a fixed wing which sits on two carbon fiber poles. Even though the DRS system is now gone, the P1 GTR will make up for it with a lot of power. Thanks to the new wing, the car can have a smoother back which allows it to provoke less air turbulence at high speed.
2016 McLaren P1 GTR Price
Unlike a usual car, the P1 GTR will only be available to select customers. These will have to pay 3.5 million dollars which is currently the highest price for a production vehicle. In this price McLaren will source the car to them but as far as we know, it will only be available to drive only on select race tracks. This also means that the car will be ready to drive only in certain periods of the year. The release date for this new hardcore model is going to be at the end of 2015 when it will only launch in a handful of cars.
As far as competition, the key rivals are Ferrari LAFERRARi XX, Pagani Huayra and McLaren F1 GTR.
The Engine range and Performance
Engine wise, the 2016 McLaren P1 GTR will get the same engine as the original P1 with a few tweaks to it. The 3.8 liter twin-turbocharged V8 will now make more power by itself thanks to a new pair of turbochargers as well as a new exhaust system. The engine will be mated to the same electric motors as before but the gearbox is now going to be almost 50% lighter, meaning the revving up time will be quite a bit faster than before. This not only means more brutal acceleration but also faster power delivery.
The entire powertrain will provide 984 horsepower and more than 1100 lb-ft of torque which is a lot more than any other car currently on the road in terms of raw torque. Thanks to these numbers, the P1 GTR will be able to hit a maximum top speed of nearly 230 MPH and to hit 60 MPH in less than 2.5 seconds, making it faster than its arch rival, the 918. Even though it may seem like it is slower than the original car, that is because it has a lot more fixed downforce which is a lot more valuable on a race track than a higher maximum top speed. It look like incredible, but this car should hit max speed around 220 mph.
New 2016 McLaren will be one of the fastest and the most powerful cars on the market. There are no many cars on the market which brings 1000 horsepower and reaches 220 mph. This car is for very serious car enthusiasts and for very rich people.
