The new 2016 Porsche Boxster GT4 brings small changes and improvements. And while Boxster and Cayman fall under the same price range, roadster still lacks ultimate GT4 model which Cayman already has as a coupe. In fact, Cayman GT4 is supposed to debut this summer, while Boxster Spyder GT4 probably won’t arrive before 2016 year models do altogether.
2016 Porsche Boxster GT4 Engine range
2016 Porsche Boxster GT4 will most likely get the same engine as Cayman GT4 or 911 GT4. Current Boxster Spyder has the same 3.8L flat-six engine as mentioned models, but unlike their 385 horses, it delivers 10 ponies less. Rotational force, however remains the same at 309 lb-ft of torque. Will new Boxster GT4 produce 375 or 385 horsepower, remains to be seen.
What we do know is that the car will receive 6-speed manual gearbox with dual-mass flywheel and self-adjusting clutch, just like all GT4 and Spyder models do. Furthermore, this should be enough for 0 to 60 time in just over 4 seconds and a top speed of around 180 mph.
Design – Inside and Outside look
There won’t be many differences between regular Boxster Spyder and GT4 version of convertible roadster. Only true difference will be wing spoiler which represents GT4’s trademark detail. Apart from that, 2016 Porsche Boxster GT4 will keep its handsome frontal fascia and open-mouth bumper. Singular headlamps upon pronounced wheel arches were never in doubt to begin with, and as Spyder version, sports car will receive a couple of air inlets at the foot of the rear wheel. Rear end is slightly raised in order to make room for soft top roof, but this doesn’t change rear fascia’s layout at all.
As we all know, Boxster doesn’t necessarily has to be lavishly decorated even though it does feature top class materials. Spyder and GT4 badges combined, however, will certainly demand some more upscale finish. Compact, somewhat angular dashboard features upright lines and leather covers. Seats are made of glass/carbon fiber plastic and furbished with Alcantara leather. Same goes for Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel and door panels.
Instrument panel gets a standard touch screen display which works on all infotainment apps and features. 2016 Porsche Boxster GT4 might offer a few more carbon fiber parts in its hood, but even this way, it easily competes with the most refined sports cars that German automaker produces.
2016 Porsche Boxster GT4 Price and MPG
Fuel efficiency is not yet disclosed even for mentioned Cayman and regular Boxster Spyder models and closest thing we have are GTS’ ratings which read 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. There’s no doubt that these figures will be lowered further in GT4 grades which generally produce more power and consume more at the same time. 2016 Porsche Boxster GT4 will most likely cost around $85,000 or thereabouts since base Spyder costs $82,100.
The key competitor is Mercedes SLK5 AMG.
2016 Porsche Boxster GT4 is eagerly awaited by those Boxster lovers who require even more power from their pet car. Being a Spyder, it will offer you some memorable driving enjoyment and great driving dynamics. Apart from that, it offers premium luxury for a small sports car and more than a few features that are supposed to come in handy.
