New fabulous car is coming, 2016 Subaru Impreza. Impreza is, without a doubt the most-known nameplate that came out of Subaru’s factories, especially in its WRX form. This former World Rally champion car is now in its fourth generation and after a mid-cycle refresh in 2015 year models, 2016 Subaru Impreza will be carried over before next-gen models which are already being designed for production.
Styling – Outside and Inside look
Small trapezoid grille now has different mesh, and lower air intake has also been slightly changed. Other than that, there are no significant changes to Impreza’s front end fascia like there are no changes around the back either. Rear end features the same roofline spoiler, tail-lights and chrome garnish above the license plate inlet.
Inside changes have also been kept to the minimum. All materials have been carried over as 2016 Subaru Impreza still features cloth, tricot and leather seat upholstery with heated front seats optional with all-weather package on all, but entry-level grade. Only black and ivory colorways are offered, but they go with all three build options, while silver metallic accents are present throughout the lineup. Oval dash features 6.2-inch high resolution touch-screen display at its center, while LCD multi-information display sits atop the dash, in special housing.
There’s plenty of room for smaller possessions and Impreza also offers bottle holders galore. Automatic climate control is available with top tier models which also get available navigation upgrade and 7-inch touch screen to go with it. All models include six standard airbags plus a driver’s knee seventh one. Stability control, anti-lock brakes and a rearview camera are also standard, while higher tiers get EyeSight driver assist suite which contains adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning and pre-collision brake assist.
The Engine range and MPG
Since 2016 will most likely be the last year Impreza features as a fourth generation vehicle, changes in any department, and especially in powertrain one are highly unlikely. That’s why base Impreza will keep its 2.0L 4-cylinder engine which develops 148 hp and 145 lb-ft of torque. All available models are tied to standard 5-speed manual or optional CVT transmission, but drivetrain is yet again limited to all-wheel drive which is Subaru’s trademark. High-performing WRX and STI models will also continue unchanged and they come with duo of strong turbo fours. WRX’s get 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder with 268 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, while STI’s benefit from 2.5L turbocharged 4-cylinders putting up 305 hp and 290 lb-ft of torque.
Models with CVT transmission are the leaders in fuel efficiency, especially after this year’s tweaks to powertrain. Base models are rated at 28 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway, while manual transmission drops the figures to 25/34 mpg. WRX models are rated at 21/28 or 19/25 mpg with manual or sport lineatropic transmission respectively, while STI drops the numbers to 17/23 mpg.
