The new 2016 Toyota Avensis will be in showrooms this summer, also, this car brings some changes. Toyota Avensis is exclusively available overseas, but this doesn’t mean it is a bad car. It slots somewhere between Camry and Avalon in the states, and represents a fine family car which comes in three body styles. After Geneva, and a few more months, 2016 Toyota Avensis starts the fourth generation sales in Europe.
2016 Toyota Avensis Engine
2016 Toyota Avensis should offer some new engine choices, together with carried over options. For starters, the car will have a single petrol unit and couple of oil burners. 1.8L 4-cylinder petrol option should deliver 145 horses and be tied to either 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. 2.2L 4-cylinder diesel engine offers both transmission choices as well, and makes 148 horsepower. Finally, 2.0L 4-cylinder diesel engine puts up 122 horsepower and comes exclusively with manual gearbox which makes the base option.
Design – Inside and Outside look
Previous generation came under a lot of scrutiny for its bland and uninspiring design. Things are different now as new Avensis looks better. However, it doesn’t feature a revolutionary styling which is somewhat natural for mid-size sedans. Initial year gave us sedan and wagon models, while hatchback should be offered later. Frontal fascia of both cars has been toned down and features sharper and more contemporary headlamp units. Both models have similar behinds even though they feature different bodies. Large tail-lights and a chrome garnish between them seem like a fine choice.
Interior has been revised and looks very good indeed. Plenty of modern cues can be found inside new Avensis. Two-tone materials, dash overlaps, absence of buttons; all of this makes 2016 Toyota Avensis’ interior very appealing to the eye. New model gets new Toyota Touch 2 technology with 8-inch touch screen display which is a piece of premium equipment in the states. Bluetooth, USB ports and phone integration are also standard, while navigation can be ordered through optional package.
Base models come with fabric cloth seats, but those requiring better comfort can always order one of higher echelon cars which get Alcantara leather upholstery. Safety features are quite advanced too, and apart from standard, mandatory ones, Avensis benefits from a rearview camera, automatic high beam headlights, blind-spot monitors and adaptive cruise control among other options.
2016 Toyota Avensis Price and MPG
Fuel economy is supposed to be upgraded, but don’t expect anything mind blowing. Compared to Camry, 2016 Toyota Avensis will definitely offer better figures, but then again, it does come with downsized engines. In any case, expect more than 30 mpg combined in all, but especially diesel engines.
As for the price, Avensis starts from around £18,000 in the U.K. Rest of Europe gets slightly higher price tag, but in Euros, while top grades find themselves around 30,000 mark.
2016 Toyota Avensis brings pretty much what everyone expected. It is now a better car, but not by much. Most of its figures have remained the same, or at least similar to those of the outgoing model. There aren’t many new features, but new design, and especially new interior really look good. Interior is so modern that we expect other Toyota’s nameplates to follow in Avensis’ footsteps.
