The new 2016 Toyota Tacoma Diesel comes. Toyota was given a gift by the US manufacturers in a face of cheap truck market and Japanese took it without hesitation. Now, they find themselves behind times as they never really had competition. Chevy has brought back Colorado and the same can be expected from Ford too. Tacoma will have to be completely revised in order for it to survive this race which is slowly becoming serious.
The Engine range
Most important thing is that Tacoma’s powertrains are showing their age and their fuel economy ratings are quite low. In order to fix that, Toyota will either incorporate hybrid or, more likely a diesel model. Even though Toyota still doesn’t offer a diesel powertrain in the US, never say never, plus, it would finally open the door for much wanted Hilux to appear in the states. It’s hard to guess what engine Toyota might choose, but 2.0L turbodiesel 4-cylinder seems like a best bet.

Changes and Design – Interior and Exterior
The fact that second generation lasts since 2005 is the best indicator that Tacoma is now an archaic vehicle. Changes won’t only come in powertrain department, but in exterior design as well. It is expected that Tacoma will receive a bigger grille and corresponding headlights. Out back, not much should be changed and vertical tail-lights will only be slightly altered.
Interior is also going to be refurbished, but don’t expect revolutionary design and use of high-quality materials. However, Tacoma will get more contemporary cabin design and more quality materials than it has now. Dashboard will be completely converted and will get more complex lines, while instrument panel could keep a similar design as it is well-organized even now. It will keep a 6.1-inch touch screen display in case Toyota doesn’t decide to change its interior outfit policy by then. Six airbags, stability control, ABS and brake assist could be joined by a few more advanced safety features like a rearview camera and parking sensors.
Main reason for the use of new engines are fuel economy ratings. Low twenties mpg combined, which Tacoma puts up now are quite low for a small pickup and diesel option should raise them to upper twenties or even lower thirties mpg combined.
2016 Toyota Tacoma Diesel Price details
Price is a double edged sword. Tacoma will be upgraded, but Toyota musn’t play with its customers as other players are in the picture now. That’s why Tacoma will probably keep its price range which is between $18,500 and $29,000.
2016 Toyota Tacoma is expected to be a new car, literally. By then, it will most likely enter its third generation and offer diesel powertrain responsible for upgraded torque and fuel efficiency. It will also offer fresh new look and refurbished interior with more available features.
The biggest competitors are: Chevrolet Colorado and Nissan Frontier.
