If the speculations are correct, one of the best-selling SUV should be new 2016 Volvo XC60. Volvo isn’t exactly known for making all out sports cars but rather safe and conservative luxury cars. Well, the 2016 Volvo XC60 actually manages to strike a balance between sportiness and luxury thanks to a brilliant chassis, good engines as well as one of the better interiors in its class, with luxury materials and impressive craftsmanship.
The original model was released back in 2008 with a facelift coming in 2013. The 2016 model though is going to be a major refresh of the car with improvements made both to its engines as well as to its drivetrain.
2016 Volvo XC60 Review
While the previous model offered quite a good balance between sportiness and comfort, the newer version is expected to be even better. Volvo even said that it will probably be the best driving compact luxury crossover out there and thanks to its powerful and fuel efficient engines, one of the funnest to drive as well. The release date for the car hasn’t been made public just yet but we expect it to come in the second quarter of 2015 at a base price no higher than 40.000 dollars which is a bit more than the previous car but Volvo will also offer a better equipped car at that price.
The Engine range and Options
Engine wise, the 2016 Volvo XC60 will get the most engines in its class with no less than 5 completely different turbocharged petrol engines. The front wheel driven models will come with a selection of two 2 liter petrol engines. The first is a turbocharged 2 liter inline 4 which is good for 240 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque which even though is the least powerful of the lot, it should offer quite an impressive performance quote.
The more powerful version will consist out of a 2 liter twin-charged inline 4 which will use a supercharger as well as a turbocharger for 302 horsepower and more than 320 lb-ft of torque. This will provide a 0 to 60 MPH time of under 6 seconds and a top speed of nearly 140 MPH with the help of an 8 speed automatic gearbox.
The all wheel drive models will lose in the fuel consumption department but all of them are going to be quite good, both on road and off it. The base car will get a 2.5 liter turbo with 250 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque while the higher end model will get an inline 6 with 300 horsepower. Both of these are going to offer around 20 MPG on average which is not that bad for the power it offers.
The top of the range though is going to be a 3 liter turbocharged inline 6 with 325 horsepower and more than 400 lb-ft of torque. All of them are going to come with a 6 speed automatic as standard and all of them will be limited to 118 miles per hour due to the all wheel drive system.
Style – Interior & Exterior
The interior of the 2016 Volco XC60 is going to be quite a bit more impressive than that of the present car. It will use less buttons and better materials for a better overall experience. Most of the car’s functions are going to be controlled via a 10 inch touch screen which will also serve as the satellite navigation unit. Leather is going to be standard an all models while the customers are going to be able to choose from aluminum, carbon fiber or even real wood inserts.
Its exterior though won’t change all that much over the current model. The only real change will be the different front end with a bigger grille as well as slightly smaller air intakes which should give the car a more aggressive look. Just like before, 20 inch wheels with high performance Pirelli tires are going to be standard all around the models.
