2017 Cadillac XT5

The SRX has been one of the best selling Cadillac cars for a while but because it was getting dated, people started to look elsewhere. In order change this, back at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the all new 2017 Cadillac XT5 has been released. Just like the name, the car is all new and even though it replaces the SRX, it has absolutely nothing in common with it.

The car is based on an all new platform called C1XX which has been derived from the all new E2XX. Thanks to this platform, the car is slightly shorter and slightly wider than before, all while being similarly tall.

Refined Design – Interior & Exterior

The biggest change on this new model has to be its design which is spot on, especially in the sea of German-looking crossovers. Thankfully, Cadillac managed to bring something unique on the market with a lot of character. The front end is quite aggressive in design with pointy swept back headlights that extend towards the vertical fog-lamps with a couple of vertical LED daytime running lights. The front intakes and grilles perfectly fit the design of the 2017 Cadillac XT5.

The back has a similar approach as well with a set of rectangular exhaust pipes and a small silver shield which really completes the look. While it has approximately the same proportions as the SRX, the new XT5 looks to be much wider, lower and longer, mostly thanks to its rather up-to-date design and longer wheelbase than before.

Modern Interior

Inside the cabin there is a slightly different story. Here, the car offers a much more minimalistic interior than its predecessor which manages to impress with very nice materials and a lot of space. In the front the car offers better and more supportive seats than before, the dashboard is rather simple with a large LCD screen in the middle and a couple of different controls under it. The leather seems to be of a really nice quality and the aluminum or even wood inserts on the dashboard and door covers give the car a really premium feel.

The Engine range & Specs

In the United States, the 2017 Cadillac XT5 will only be offered with a single engine choice which may be enough for most but it certainly is not enough to allow it to compete with the more powerful and efficient competitors. This engine is a 3.6 liter naturally aspirated V6 petrol engine which can offer up to 310 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. This should be more than enough to allow the car to hit 60 MPH in around 6 seconds and get up to 130 MPH with ease.

The engine will be mated to an 8 speed automatic as standard which will send the power either to the front wheels or to all of them. The AWD model will also benefit from a torque vectoring system and it will also allow the driver to lock the car in front wheel drive mode in order to save fuel.

The Chinese version of the XT5 on the other hand will be using a 2 liter turbocharged inline 4 petrol engine which will offer similar levels of torque to the V6 but it will only offer closer to 240 horsepower, still more than enough for a highway cruiser. The major difference here will be that the car will likely be offered with front wheel drive only.

This gives it similar proportions to the older model which also makes it easier for people to know what car it is. While it has been released a couple of months ago, the car will not go on sale for at least a couple more months and when it will hit the market, it will likely start at over $42,000, especially since none of its competitor is cheaper than that.

BMW X3 and Audi Q5 are the biggest competitors.
