After many years of speculation on the subject, it seems that Chevy has finally found the guts to evolve its most iconic sports car. 2017 Chevrolet Corvette Zora ZR1 will be the result of this shift in design language, and ultimate racer might never be the same after that.
Moniker Zora is derived from Zora Arkus Duntov, Belgian engineer which first introduced V8 power to Corvette lineup, and we can’t think of a better way to pay tribute to this visionary than naming another revolutionary Corvette by him. But, unfortunately, there are no official photos of this car. It is very big secret, so we can hope to see later..
2017 Chevrolet Corvette Zora ZR1 Engine
Corvettes in general might never be the same because Chevy plans to move their engine to the middle of the car which will irreparably disrupt the harmony of a front engine/rear wheel drive layout of all previous generations. However, it might be for the best as future Corvettes will now be able to put up even more power and finally transcend to the affordable supercar category which they well deserve.
With that in mind, Zora could be fitted with upgraded version of Z06’s supercharged V8 engine which should surpass the 700 hp and 700 lb-ft of torque mark. Thanks to this, 2017 Chevrolet Corvette Zora ZR1 should be able to achieve top speeds of around 200 mph and 0 to 60 time in around 3 seconds. Also, new ZR1 will bring manual transmission, one of reasons why this supercars is so powerful.
However impressive the figures are, all this wouldn’t be possible without mid-engine layout which was always associated with Corvette, but was never actually made in production quantities; up until now, that is.
Design – new style and description
Zora ZR1 will have to ride on different body framework, that much is certain. However, Chevrolet doesn’t have to make a new platform for it, only to adapt current one. Still, being a next-gen car (C8), new Corvette might just get the new platform nevertheless. New Corvette’s body should give it more supercar-like appeal and it is evident that iconic car might never look the same again as well as not riding the same.
It should get plenty of polished angular creases, but will most likely keep the bulky rear end with trademark duo of circular tail-lights. Most importantly, it will be made of lightweight materials with plenty of aluminum and carbon fiber parts.
As far as Zora’s interior goes, it is still too early to speculate. Still, it shouldn’t be that different than current set of cabins in top-grade Corvettes. Of course, new platform will do its trick and Zora models will stand out as separate division inside Corvette’s lineup, so things aren’t as clear as we would wish them to be, and won’t be for some time.
Price and Release date
Rumors or not, but it is expected that the car will cost around $150,000 which clearly indicates what kind of quality and refinement we should expect from its cockpit layout. This rumored price is cheaper than all competitors, in their class.
Speaking of competition, the main and seriosuly rivals are Ferrari 458 Speciale and Audi R8 V10. But, it is so early to say when this car will be in showrooms, but, for a two months, we should know a lot of more. So, stay patient and visit this page.
2017 Chevrolet Corvette Zora ZR1 is part of the bigger picture as all future models, even base ones could shift to the mid-engine layout. Ramifications of this decision will be huge, at least for Corvette and supercar fans in general. Former ones will have to adapt to a new chapter in life of their favorite car, and the latter ones will get another exciting options to choose from.
As conclusion, we can say, and we hope that this supercar will make a revolution on the market, especially when we talk about new style, and more important, about performance and features. But, one thing is true, that this car will be awesome.
