2017 Chevrolet Onix

Just as we all known, Chevrolet is an International manufacturer which tries and manages to offer unique cars for each particular market in order to get above its competitors and also to give its customers the best product for that particular area. The Onix is the perfect example of that, a car built specifically for the Brazilian market which offers all the right things starting with a comfortable interior and ending up with really fuel efficient engines.

The car has been originally launched back in 2012 so you would think that a mid-life update would be released quite soon and you would not be wrong.

What’s new for 2017?

The 2017 Chevrolet Onix has been showcased a couple of weeks ago and the car is expected to debut in the mid of 2016. Just like with the current model, it will use the same Gamma platform mostly because it will not be an all new car but rather a mild facelift. At this point in time the details are scarce but it seems that the car will also receive new engines as well as upgrades inside the cabin.

New Design – Interior & Exterior

The exterior of the upcoming 2017 Chevrolet Onix is likely going to receive the most amount of changes over the previous model. Firstly, the front end is likely going to be completely redesigned and it should borrow extensively from the US version of the all new Malibu with the slightly elongated headlights, the new slimmer grille and the larger lower air intake. These should make for a more aggressive and also slightly more aerodynamic car.

The back is also expected to receive new tail-lights designs while the rear bumper will be completely redesigned in order to accommodate a new exhaust and integrated splash-guards.

Refined Interior

Inside the cabin the design is also expected to change but to what extent we don’t know so far. Our best guess would be that the Aveo-based design will be kept which could mean that the car will keep the design of its dashboard with the electronic speedometer unchanged. However, we may see an all new center stack design as well as new more comfortable seats. Unfortunately the car will continue to offer just as much space as before but it may offer more storage spaces thanks to the new center console.

The Engine range & Specs

Under the hood of the 2017 Chevrolet Onix we are likely going to see an all new engine. Instead of the old 1 and 1.4 liter 4 cylinder mills, the car will very likely use GM’s all new 1 liter 3 cylinder petrol engine. This uses a timing chain instead of the usual belt and it is built out of aluminum, so it is both light and reliable. The base version of the car will use the naturally aspirated version of this engine with an 8-valve cylinder-head design which should be good for around 75 horsepower and up to 70 lb-ft of torque.

The RS version of the Onix on the other hand will likely make use of a turbocharged version of the same engine which could provide up to 115 horsepower and 110 lb-ft of torque with the help of a new head and turbocharger. This should be more than enough to outrun the current engine and to allow the car to be more efficient than before. The only transmission of choice will likely be a 5 speed manual.

2017 Chevrolet Onix Price

While the release will be some time in the mid of 2016, it will likely only be available for sale starting with the first half of 2017. The price should not stray too far away from that of the current model which meanst hat a base model will cost somewhere around $14,000 or little over which is quite good for what it has to offer.
