We could expect that new 2017 Chevy Colorado will receive a several changes and improvements. The all new Colorado has been launched on the US market quite recently and despite that, it managed to get on top of its competitors soon after. This is mostly thanks to its very powerful and efficient engines, massive tow ratings and good looks. While this may be enough for most manufacturers, GM is already planning an update with the 2017 Chevy Colorado which is expected to bring a couple new trim levels on the market, slightly upgraded engines as well as slight changes to its appearance.
These should make it even more appealing that it currently is and it will likely allow GM to get a rather big lead over its main competitors.
What’s new for 2017?
The platform will remain unchanged which is to be expected considering this is only a facelift for the US model. However, the new trim levels will big some very big updates which will allow the Colorado to form a niche of its own on the market.
The Engine range & Specs
Under the hood of the 2017 Chevy Colorado we are likely going to see the same engines as in the current model, only with slight upgrades made to them. The base model will retain its 2.5 liter naturally aspirated inline 4 petrol engine which is good for 200 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque, enough to be the most powerful base engine in its class. Further up the range, the 3.6 liter naturally aspirated V6 will get a small boost to around 320 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, going to the same levels as the engine in the new Camaro. This will now only make the Colorado the most powerful compact truck but it will make its special ZR2 edition a really fun to drive truck.
Let’s not forget though the all new 2.8 liter Duramax inline 4 diesel which will continue to offer 181 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. While it is not offering all that much power, thanks to the massive amount of torque it is capable to churn out, the Duramax will allow the Colorado to tow more than 8,000 pounds with ease. All engines will also get a small upgrade to their transmission, so all of them will now come with an 8 speed automatic, rear or all wheel drive.
Design – Inside and Outside look
In terms of design, the usual models of the 2017 Chevy Colorado will only get a new front fascia with slightly different headlights and a new grille. However, the new ZR2 trim level will get an all new look with off-road bumpers, 17 inch rims wrapped in high performance off-road tires as well as Fox-shocks with external reservoirs. This has only been showcased as a concept so far but it is clear that GM will put it into production soon enough.
Inside the cabin the truck will receive GM’s latest infotainment system which has already made an appearance on the all new Camaro. This should be much easier to use as well as faster to navigate and it will be offered at a lower price than what is currently available. Also, the ZR2 version will add sport seats, a new instrument cluster with a unique color scheme as well as a similar steering wheel to that on the new Camaro.
2017 Chevy Colorado Diesel Price & Release date
The release date for all of these will likely be at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show and it should be offered in dealerships shortly after that. The price will remain similar to the current model which means that the base model will start at roughly $21,000 while a top of the line version will easily get past $40,000.
This might seem like a large sum of money for a compact truck but it will be well worth it considering what it will offer at that price-point.
