It seems that a new truck is going to be released on the North American market under Dodge’s truck brand. The 2017 Dodge Rampage is going to be a compact pickup truck, similar in size to the Chevrolet Colorado but having a completely different construction. It is unclear yet about what types of engines it will get or even what design Dodge will go for but one aspect is certain; this truck is going to be based on the upcoming Fiat Toro which means it will not get a body on frame construction but it will rather get a unibody design as well as front wheel drive as standard which is a bit unusual on the truck market.
Design – prediction
The design of the upcoming 2017 Dodge Rampage will not be the usual Ram truck but it will rather be a Fiat Toro with a different design for its front fascia as well as different wheels. Many people suggested that the truck would actually make use of the same front grille as the one found on the Ram Rebel which is the only one not using the usual cross-hair design. On top of that, Xenon headlamps as well as four doors will be offered as standard. Higher end models will come with beefier off-road tires, black plastic protections for its body and even underside skid-plates which could make for a really interesting truck.
The interior is likely going to be the best selling point of this truck because it will be bigger than any of its competitors. The floor will be lower than usual and there is going to be enough room for up to five adults. On top of that, the materials will be above the average with the top of the range models offering all the commodities usually found on a mid to large size sedan. The design of the interior on the other hand could make some people angry because rumors say that it will be a complete carry over from the European Toro.
Under the Hood
Engine wise, the 2017 Dodge Rampage is going to be offered in a few different trim levels which will range from a 1.4 liter turbocharged inline 4 all the way up to a fully fledged V6. The base engine will likely be the 1.4 liter unit offering 140 horsepower and over 160 lb-ft of torque which will only be offered with front wheel drive and a 6 speed automatic. Further up the range, a 2.4 liter naturally aspirated inline 4 offering 182 horsepower and over 170 lb-ft of torque could also be offered. This will get either a 6 speed manual or a 9 speed automatic, front or all wheel drive.
The top of the range model of the Rampage has been rumored to come with one of two very different engines. There is a slim chance for it to get a 2.4 liter turbocharged inline 4 with over 300 horsepower but the most probable unit to find its way into the new Rampage is the already proven 3.6 liter naturally aspirated V6 found on the full size sedans. This will provide up to 300 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque and it will only be offered with all wheel drive, unlike the other two.
2017 Dodge Rampage Price & Release date
This type of construction though should mean that it will not only be more comfortable on the road but it will also offer more space inside the cabin as well as better fuel economy. The release date is likely going to be some time in the mid of 2016 and when it will hit the market, a price lower than $17,000 could not be that far fetched which would even allow Ram to slot in a medium size truck as well.
