The latest 2017 Fiat Ram pickup will be officially presented in second half 2016 year. Fiat-Chrysler division seems to be planning on introducing a new mid-size pickup to global, and possibly even North American markets. Collaboration between Fiat and Ram should fuse Fiat Strada and Ram 700 into a new model which gets the best from both worlds.
2017 Fiat Ram pickup will most likely start from South America and Europe, but it would be a fine competition to Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon as well; no doubt about it.
The Engine Range
Overseas markets might continue with Fiat’s engines which mostly range from 2.0L to 3.0L in displacement. Furthermore, most of them are diesels and they make between 115 and 175 horses. 3.0L 4-cylinder petrol unit is also a likely candidate with its 280 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, and so is 3.6L Pentastar V-6 engine which develops 305 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque.
However, latter option will most likely be kept for possible U.S. market appearance, further down the line.6-speed automatic and manual transmissions don’t come as a surprise here, and so wouldn’t both rear and all-wheel drive configs, even though both Ram 700 and Fiat Strada are front-wheel driven.
Design – Predictions and Spy photos
2017 Fiat Ram pickup mule has already been caught testing, but it also exhibited one of the heaviest camouflages we have ever seen in test models. Pretty much everything was covered; head to toe. Being marketed overseas, compact truck will most likely take more international approach when it comes to design. In this light, expect plenty of curves and car-like cues. It will most likely be lower than U.S. marketed trucks, and should be built from contemporary materials which include hard plastics and aluminum as well.
What can one expect from Fiat Ram truck’s interior, no one knows at this point. Being a compact, and most likely affordable at that, it shouldn’t experiment too much with luxurious levels of equipment. Everything above premium cloth or leatherette seats would be too much, but one top grade might still be offered with full leather seats. Dashboard will certainly be made out of hard/soft plastic combination, and top tiers might come with some metallic accents.
2017 Fiat Ram pickup should offer infotainment cluster with touch screen display of adequate size, but entry-level models will certainly have to do without one. Finally, safety features will include all needed airbags, stability control, anti-lock brakes, hill-start assist and trailer sway control.
2017 Fiat/Ram pickup Price details
We still don’t have any official confirmation about Fiat Ram pickup’s powertrain department and we can’t exactly pinpoint its fuel efficiency ratings. Still, no doubt that compact truck will be quite efficient thanks to its 4-cylinder diesel engines. Prices will depend on a market of its origin and should start from around $20,000. On the other hand, Fiat Ram’s new pickup probably won’t cost more than $30,000.
2017 Fiat Ram pickup comes as a result of Italian and American automaker’s collaboration. It should offer the best from both makers and compete in overseas markets with the likes of Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux. What future brings, we don’t know. Maybe it’ll find its way to U.S. market as well, but in any case, expect future collaborations between Fiat and one of GM’s brands.
The biggest rivals are Ford Ranger 2017 and Toyota Hilux.
