2017 Ford Raptor Redesign, Price and Changes

One of the latest editions is new 2017 Ford Raptor. After F-150 had shifted generations last year, Raptor version of a half-ton pickup has been left out in the cold. However, blue oval plans on reinstating it as soon as thirteenth generation models settle in. This basically means that 2017 Ford Raptor will arrive sometime during 2016.

The Engine range

Unlike its siblings which are offered with wide range of both fuel-consuming and fuel-efficient engines, Raptor comes exclusively with former ones. Actually, it is offered with one option under its hood and that is 3.5L twin turbo V6. Even though this engine shares the displacement of similar option in conventional lineup, Raptor’s version is highly tweaked in order to deliver off-road dedicated figures. Mentioned numbers aren’t available yet, but this powertrain could deliver more than 450 hp and more than 500 lb-ft of torque.

Type    3.5-liter EcoBoost® engine
Output    450 HP (est)
Torque    434+ LB-FT

When we talk about performance, new Raptor reaches max speed about 140 mph. On the other hand, for 60 mph is necessary only 5.5 seconds. These specs are very good, for one truck, moreover impressive features.

Exterior description

2017 Ford Raptor will share exterior design with its siblings, but will also come with some distinctive details of its own. First of all, it will be offered in SuperCab and SuperCrew cab configurations which leaves the shortest version out of the picture. Secondly, highly-visible Ford lettering will replace blue oval badge at front, and tailgate will receive one of these too.

Moreover, Raptor will come with blacked-out grille, bumpers and fenders, while the rest of the truck should remain the same, apart from small air inlets atop the rear end of a front fender. Finally, just like its conventional counterparts, Raptor too will be built out of military-grade aluminum and should shed some 500 pounds of excess weight.

Since this model is built to sit atop the lineup, 2017 Ford Raptor will be furbished with high-quality materials including leather and aluminum trim. However, as it is aimed at off-road oriented buyers, Raptor will also offer rubber floor mats which are easier for maintenance. There isn’t going to be any significant changes in its overall interior design as heavy angular dash will keep its layout.

Interior, Features and Safety options

Available features will be on par with current top grade models’ tech which means that special version of F-150 will be well-fitted. Apart from standard 8-inch touch screen display, it should get standard 4G LTE internet connection and all currently available connectivity options. Safety features will also be quite advanced for its niche and Raptor should be offered with a rearview camera, blind-spot monitors and lane-keeping system, while surround-view camera and adaptive cruise control should be optional.

Previous Raptors were infamous for their disastrous fuel economy ratings, but let’s not forget that they were offered with 6.2L V8 engines. Even 3.5L turbo V6 option in off-road oriented Raptor won’t yield the same numbers as corresponding engine in conventional lineup, but at least ratings will be better than they were before.

2017 Ford Raptor Price

There are no official information about price range. If the predictions true, price of the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor will be about 55,000 dollars, more or less. By the way, the previous edition costs 51,000 dollars. When it comes to release date, we can expect this model in fall this year, or first half next year.

The main competitors are Dodge Ram Wagon and new Toyota Tundra TRD PRO.

2017 Ford Raptor should continue where its predecessor left off, but with one major change. New powertrain won’t be nearly as large as it was in outgoing model, but should return solid figures in all categories, including fuel economy. This off-road version of best-sold pickup in the U.S. offers everything one towing enthusiast could have wished for, and more.

This is only short preview of this truck, so stay tuned and come back for a two months, when we will know a lot of more about this model.
