First photos of the new 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR are available. F stands for performance in Jaguar’s world. But even performance-oriented vehicles can get their own performance version. It’s like box in a box.
2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR is supposed to push the limits to previously unimaginable heights for British manufacturer as the car is supposed to become the most powerful one that ever came out of Birmingham plant.
Under the Hood
2-door roadster is supposed to be offered with the same 5.0L supercharged V-8 mill which can currently be found in rest of the lineup. F-Type R develops 550 horses and special, 250-unit limited Project 7 model generates 575 ponies. 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR will set the bar even higher with reported figures of 600 horsepower. We still don’t know how British engineers plan on doing this, but we know they’ll find a way.
Another thing that we don’t know at this point is car’s transmission and drivetrain. Although all F-Types are currently rear-wheel driven, we shall see if SVR model receives all-wheel drive.
2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR Design
Design-wise, differences probably won’t be that visible. Of course, performance-oriented models always get some unique details of their own, but overall body language won’t be changed. Oval grille will be flanked by even larger lower air intakes and singular, upswept headlights. Hood inlets will be revised, and there are supposed to be couple of intakes behind the front fenders as well. Other than that, car will pretty much remain the same, apart from larger spoiler around the back.
Interior is supposed to get its unique elements as well. New, more supportive, sport seats and maybe even different steering wheel should be the first changes. SVR model will also come with its own batch of unique interior colorways and accents. Apart from aluminum trim, expect plenty of carbon fiber veneers as well. Dashboard should remain the same, and instrument panel too, with it.
This means that we’ll again get the 8-inch touch screen display in its middle and shift lever close at hand. As for the tech feature list, things shouldn’t get any different than they are now. Even though 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR is supposed to be more expensive than R models, they will, more or less, share the same technology. Only thing that you’ll have to pay extra for are those additional ponies.
This means: 770-watt Meridian sound system, configurable lighting and plenty of advanced electronic safety systems like a rearview camera, parking assist, blind-spot monitors, closing vehicle sensing, reversing traffic detection and automatic high beams, will all be offered.
2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR Price
Performance-wise, F-Type SVR might be a rocket, and it surely looks like it’s going to be a rocket in terms of fuel consumption as well. We don’t yet know the exact figures, but expect combined figures in low teens. And, yes, the price isn’t supposed to be lower than $150,000.
The main rivals are: Aston Martin Vantage and Porsche 911 Convertible.
2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR will push the Jag into 600+ horsepower land for the first time. It comes soon after they managed to make 550 and 575 horses, and one has to wonder, what’s next for the British brand. In any case, F-Type SVR is a sublime performer with plenty of grace all around it.
