2017 Jaguar XE’s production has only just begun this April, and, as model’s year suggests, some time will be needed before the sales start. As a compact executive car, it is supposed to sit at the bottom of British manufacturers’ range, but this doesn’t mean that this car is a bottom feeder. It is actually a very good luxury compact sedan with lots of grace and excellent driving dynamics.
2017 Jaguar XE Drivetrain options
There’s a trio of available engines for all kinds of needs. Base options are 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol one and 2.0L turbo diesel 4-cylinder engine. Former should be the base engine in North America and is supposed to deliver around 240 horses, while latter will mostly be sold in Europe and is supposed to make 180 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque. Finally, strongest option is 3.0L supercharged V-6 which puts up 340 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque.
Now, all models will be offered with standard rear and optional all-wheel drive. Transmissions, however, are slightly more complex. V-6 models will get the 8-speed automatic gearbox anyway, but 4-cylinder options will get it only in all-wheel drive config. On the other hand, rear-wheel drive and 4-cylinder engines spell a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Styling – Inside and Outside look
Design language is superb, but what would you expect from a Jag? Frontal fascia with trademark soft rectangular grille and corresponding lower air intakes below the foglights and in the middle are joined by sharp, modern headlights. All this gives 2017 Jaguar XE quite menacing look. Rest of the car is pretty sharp and generally finished in beautiful fashion. This goes both for arching roof and car’s profile, and neatly finished overhang with huge, long tail-lights.
Interior colors depend on a trim level, but all models feature two-tone seats and door panels with single color dashboard. Dash itself is rather short and cut, but features a large instrument panel with couple of side-by-side airvents and a touch screen display below them. That’s where things get slightly different as middle tunnel gets plenty of silver metallic accents. One downside is rear row of seats which suffers from slight lack of room.
Furthermore, infotainment software doesn’t seem as responsive as it should be in such a refined car, but that can be easily solved before the sales commence. Finally, feature list is quite rich and if you decide to go for 2017 Jaguar XE, you’ll get plenty of high-tech options in all segments.
2017 Jaguar XE Price and MPG
4-cylinder turbo diesel engines are supposed to hit 40 mpg on the highway mark, while their turbocharged petrol counterparts aren’t supposed to be that efficient. On the other hand, supercharged V-6 will most likely need plenty of fuel in order to run and shouldn’t be your choice if you are planning on saving some fuel money.
However, its performance is meticulous and you’ll see the difference straight on. U.K prices are supposed to be in the range between £27,000 and £45,000, while U.S. models could be slightly more expensive if you only look at the figures. They will, actually, be less expensive when you convert dollars to pounds.
2017 Jaguar XE is a handsome compact executive car from Britain which exhibits some great performance. If that’s not up your alley, you can order fuel-efficient model instead. In any case, you won’t be disappointed with it if you deem its price range worthy of a compact sedan.
