2017 Mercedes-AMG SL65 – premiere at LA Show

The new roadster, 2017 Mercedes-AMG SL65 had a premiere at 2015 LA Show. It’s been a while since Mercedes made a serious adjustment to the SL series. ever since they introduced aluminum parts that shaved off almost 250 pounds of weight. However, the last car show revealed some well-needed updates to the series. Due to a complex naming scheme, there will be many official names for this car: we call it the 2017 Mercedes-AMG SL65, but you might come to know it under some different name.

Regardless of the name, the 2017 Mercedes-AMG SL65 will feature updates in almost every section (in terms of appearance), but the old V-12 from the previous generation will probably stay for quite some time.

Redesign – aggressive & sporty style

As you might expect, the 2017 Mercedes-AMG SL65 still looks the part, even though it was given a more aggressive appearance. This time, instead of LED lights, front grille and bumpers, the fascia itself received several updates: the twin-blade radiator grille is now wider at the bottom; air intakes feature chrome inserts, and the aerodynamic properties are being enhanced by the redesigned front splitter. The hood and fenders are largely the same, if not for the new badges and numerous chrome inserts.

The light alloy wheels feature 19 inches in the front and 20 in the rear. Speaking of rear, the 2017 Mercedes-AMG SL65 has all-red taillights. The image is completed by the trunk lid spoiler and the quad-exhaust. The diffuser also features high-gloss chrome inserts between and beneath the exhaust pipes.

The inside of the 2017 Mercedes-AMG SL65 had little space for improvements, as the previous generations have used it all up. Naturally, it comes with the three-spoke steering wheel and a different button configuration. The inside is covered in only the finest leather – Nappa, of course. There is even the signature analogue clock on top of the central stack. If you are willing to pay extra for addtional performance packs, you could get a better steering wheel (not that there’s anything wrong with the old one, mind you) and an optional carbon-grain aluminum trim.

As far as safety options, new SL65 brings an upgraded equipment and new tech. One of these options include Rearview camera, Blind Spot Assist, Pre-Safe system, Active Parking Assist and Parking Pilot.

Upgraded Performance & Specs

Despite all the facelifts it got, the engine of the 2017 Mercedes-AMG SL65 remains the same from previous model. still, this may not be a bad thing after all, as the 6.0-liter V-12 engine offers 621 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque, which means the car accelerates very fast; 0-to-60 mph in 3.9 seconds and the top speed is 186 mph. As for the transmission, the 2017 Mercedes-AMG SL65 feature a slightly improved version of the old seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

It is reportedly more responsive than ever, thanks to the special software and the optimized engine. It also features five driving modes: Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus, Individual and Race, and each of them modifies engine parameters accordingly.
