New 2017 Ram 1500 SRT Hellcat will be one of the most powerful trucks. What’s the next stop for Hellcat supercharged V8 engine after Dodge’s nameplates Challenger and Charger? Some suggest Ram will be the one, but so far this development of events is ruled out. It’s too early to speculate, but we expect that new SRT Hellcat will be in limited series.
It is a known fact that Ram pickups are switching generations next year which means that new, top of the line model, isn’t really an option before at least 2017. Let’s assume that 2017 Ram 1500 SRT Hellcat will be the model to incorporate this gigantic powertrain.
2017 Ram 1500 SRT Hellcat Engine
This, 6.2L supercharged V8 unit generates as much as 707 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. This is, however, possible thanks to special tweaks in both engine and car design since we are speaking of Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat here. Truck version probably won’t deliver more than 600 horses, but that’s still much more than HEMI V8, currently the strongest Ram’s engine delivers. Just like any other pickup from Ram’s lineup, 2017 Ram 1500 SRT Hellcat should be offered in both rear and all-wheel drive configurations, and should be tied to an 8-speed automatic gearbox unit.
|Under the Hood||Descrip.|
|Horsepower @ RPM||707|
|Torque @ RPM||650|
|0-60 time||4.0 sec. (Est.)|
|Top Speed||155 mph (Est.)|
Styling – Inside and Outside
We still don’t have a clear picture of next-gen Ram in our mind, but knowing the nameplate, it isn’t that hard to imagine how it will look like. Cross grille and curved, retro hood are present for a long time now, and they give the full-sizer its unique touch. They will certainly be carried over, together with some other cues, but it is interesting to see where will Ram division put SRT Hellcat models.
Most likely at the top of the range which should translate to fully chromed grille and body riddled with the alloy. However, given Hellcat’s sporty nature, hood scoop and slightly more aggressive look (compared to the rest of the line), shouldn’t be excluded.
What can be expected inside? That really depends on SRT Hellcat’s spot in the lineup. Current top grades are furbished with plenty of leather and there’s no reason to suspect that next-gen models will be too. However, latest addition to the lineup, Rebel, showcases some rather distinctive details which could feature across the board, come next generation.
Different dashboard and, especially some unique stitches and accents could well be in store for 2017 Ram 1500 SRT Hellcat. Otherwise, half ton truck will be offered with all contemporary features which include 8.4-inch touch screen display and all connectivity options. Safety features could also get expanded with standard blind spot monitors and additional active electronic safety systems.
2017 Ram 1500 SRT Hellcat Price and MPG
Current most consuming engine in the lineup is rated at 15 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. Hellcat supercharger will guzzle even more fuel and expect highway figures to drop below 20 mpg, together with city numbers which should find themselves in low teens.
Challenger and Charger aren’t available below $60,000. Considering the fact that Laramie Limited models which currently sit atop the Ram range cost around $50,000, Hellcat Ram should probably split the difference and get a price tag of $55,000 or more.
The key rivals are: Chevrolet Silverado Cheyenne Concept and Ford F-150 Tremor.
2017 Ram 1500 SRT Hellcat is still something we could only imagine, but things seem to be going in that direction. This is the earliest we could expect it, and it will most likely only be offered as a special, limited edition. Possibly even later than previously assumed.
Some of the advantages are:
– Horsepower – even 707 hp
– Gorgeous design – sporty style
– Manual transmission – may be in series production
