2017 Subaru Impreza – finally first spy photos are published. If you ask yourself, this edition brings a lot of changes. The current Impreza has been launched back in 2011 and even though it is not the best looking car in the World, it managed to impress is customers with the great handling characteristics it offers and good fuel consumption on the highway or inside the city.
However, its design is dated and in order to refresh the model, the Japanese manufacturer is going to release an all new model with the 2017 Subaru Impreza which is going to be their first model to boasts the new modular architecture which is also going to underpin their other models quite soon.
While there aren’t that many details about the upcoming 2017 Subaru Impreza, the car has been spied testing with camouflage on it and it seems to be quite similar to the current model when it comes to its actual size. However, the track width seems to be a bit more different and while the platform is all new, the all wheel drive system will be retained for even the most basic model which is a very good piece of information.
The Engine & Performance
Engine wise, the car will likely get the same engines as the current model with minor changes for the higher end versions. The base model in the US will come with a 2 liter flat-4 offering 150 horsepower and little over 150 lb-ft of torque while the higher end version will come in the form of the WRX and it will come with the same engine as the current generation which offers over 260 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque. The base 2 liter version will come with four wheel drive and a CVT gearbox while the WRX will get a 6 speed manual with an automatic being a real possibility here.
Subaru also stated some time ago that the new Impreza is also going to be offered with a hybrid powertrain which will offer the same 2 liter flat-4 as the base model but coupled with an electric motor that will boost the output to around 180 horsepower and up to 200 lb-ft of torque.
More aggressive design
The design of the car has been confirmed to change but to what extent we don’t know for now. The camouflaged model looks to be just a development mule so even though the track width is different, the car looks awfully similar to the current generation. We do expect the 2017 Subaru Impreza to get an all new front fascia with fully LED lit headlights on the higher end models, a new hatchback version with more aggressive lines that should make a few more people interested in it as well as larger wheels on the base model to make for a nicer design.
The interior will not only receive more equipment than before but the rather dull design of the older model is going to be replaced but something a bit more modern. It seems that Subaru will offer this new design on all of their upcoming cars and it should make use of a central screen as the command center of the car as well as soft touch materials rather than the sea of buttons on the center console and rather cheap plastics on the dashboard of the older car.
2017 Subaru Impreza Price & Release date
The new platform means that the upcoming car is going to be lighter, more rigid and easier to manufacture. Thanks to all of these, the price could also be lowered for the base model which would make it an even more impressive choice. The base model is likely going to be sold for under $19,000 in the US which would make it even cheaper than some sub-compact cars.
The release date for the car will likely be at the end of 2016 and the production model should follow shortly after.
The biggest rivals are Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic and Mitsubishi Lancer.
