New utility vehicle has been presented at Geneva, 2017 Volkswagen Passat Alltrack. As soon as new, eighth generation of Passat started rolling, Volkswagen started stacking up all kinds of models to enrich the nameplate and offer ultimate versatility when it comes to picking up the right model.
2017 Volkswagen Passat Alltrack is one of these models and it’s basically wagon version of well-known mid-size sedan. However, Alltrack is more than genuine wagon as it exhibits above average off road capability and has more than few tricks up its sleeve.
2017 Volkswagen Passat Alltrack Engine
If different design and a few more tweaks weren’t enough, 2017 Volkswagen Passat Alltrack offers no less than five different engines. All of them are 4-cylinders, and three are oil burners. Petrol burners deliver 148 and 217 horsepower, while diesel engines put up 148, 187 and 237 horses respectively. As you can see, there’s a powertrain for everyone.
Base, entry-level engines come with good old 6-speed manual transmission, while other mills come with advanced 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Alltrack, of course, means that this car comes exclusively with 4Motion all-wheel drive which further enhances its abilities to drive across some less accessible roads.
Design – Interior and Exterior
Design is in terms with eighth generation of Passat; that much is clear. However, Alltrack version has its differences. For starters, it rides 1.1 inch higher than conventional models which is yet another of its off road-oriented feats. Furthermore, it has reinforced chassis and can tow up to 4,850 pounds. Otherwise, it features the same stripy grille and sharp headlamps as the rest of its siblings. Apart from small Alltrack lettering, midsection doesn’t really differ that much from base Passat wagons.
Roof rails are standard and car rides on 17-inch wheels, though 18 and 19-inchers are optional. Large tailgate is perfect for cargo loading and executes modern layout which can be seen in most new Volkswagens.
Just like rest of the lineup, 2017 Volkswagen Passat Alltrack offers a few options when it comes to interior refinement. From leatherette to full premium leather upholstery and metallic accents; you can order what best suits your needs. Quite angular dashboard features airvents which stretch across whole board.
Actually, they are positioned in traditional spots, but space between them is camouflaged in order to look just like them. Touch screen display sits in the middle of instrument panel as always and offers wide array of capabilities which depend on chosen trim level. Base unit is 5-incher, while optional units measure 6.5 and 8 inches.
2017 Volkswagen Passat Alltrack Price
Official fuel efficiency figures are not yet disclosed, but you can expect diesel engines to take the biscuit as usual. Since this model doesn’t come to the states, there’s no point in mentioning EPA in any case. Alltrack’s downside might be its price. It probably won’t be available for less than £28,500 in U.K, and that’s a price tag for entry-level models. Otherwise, Alltrack will wind up in over £30k category with ease.
The biggest rivals: Subaru XV Crosstrek and Jeep Compas.
2017 Volkswagen Passat Alltrack is definitely worth the watch if you live in Europe or Australia. It might be more expensive than its siblings, but this all-wheel drive wagon is more versatile and has more capabilities than its cousins as well.
