2017 Volvo S90 – specs, review & price

Since the S90 appeared in ’96, and disappeared in ’98, Volvo has been having a relatively tough break. The 2017 Volvo S90 is a revival of the old sedan with 21st century technology. The new S90 is set to be slightly above the older one in class, with luxurious interior and a bunch of different engine types, including a hybrid.

There have been parallels between the S90 and the XC90, and most of what they said stands, as those two share a number of features and even parts. However, this does not diminish the importance of the S90 in the slightest.

Modern & Rafined Design – Inside and Outside look

The new S90 is a gorgeous sedan; it has a brand-new grille and the “Thor’s Hammer” LED daytime running lights, which is unsurprising from a Swedish car. The new sporty bumper with a wide intake is a major shift compared to the older versions. The rear windows are noticeably longer and the overall profile is sleek, in part because of the longer wheelbase. Everything except the bumper is new in the rear: the C-shaped taillights, the trunk lid and even lettering. The S90 is larger than the S80.

Widt 1.890 MM (74.40 Inches)
Width 2.019 MM (79.48 Inches)
Height 1.443 MM (56.81 Inches)
Wheelbase 2.941 MM (115.78 Inches)

The 2017 Volvo S90 features a luxurious cabin that will blow your mind. The dashboard is slimmer than ever and with more wood, while fine leather covers most of the interior. The infotainment is supplied via the Sensus Connect touchscreen that also features optional navigation. The added inches also mean more indoor space, which is always a good thing. You can actually choose between Alcantara and Nappa leather, as well as the type of wood that you want inside the cabin.

The Engine & Performance

As for the power plant, the S90 borrows some of the engines from the XC90, and even though no official specs have been released on this front, we are talking about T5 and T6 engines (gasoline), D4 and 5 (diesel) and T8 hybrid, all featured around a 2.0 liter base. Actually, engines on this model can be a 2.0-liter, turbocharged and supercharged four-banger, plus an electric motor for the hybrid. The transmission will be a matter of choice. You can choose a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission. The 6-speed is accompanied with optimized front seats and better fuel efficiency.

The 8-speed automatic, on the other hand, offers the latest in start-stop technology and boasts the best fuel efficiency to date – a tall order indeed. As for performance, in earlier models similar engines offered roughly 250 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque and upwards, while the electric engine alone could give you 25 miles before giving out.

2017 Volvo S90 Price & Release Date

The 2017 Volvo S90 is going to make an appearance in 2016 or maybe early 2017, effectively replacing the S80. As to when will this be exactly, your guess is as good as ours.

Despite the aforementioned fact, the new 2017 Volvo S90 is going to be more expensive than the S80, which means it should cost more than $44,000, even for a base version.

The biggest competitors are BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
