2018 Jaguar XE-E – first spy photos

Jaguar prepares to launch the new sedan, named 2018 Jaguar XE-E. In order to expand their roster and grow as a company, Jaguar already released the relatively small XE sedan in Europe while in the US it should be available in the next couple of months. Not too long ago some people started to see in the United Kingdom as well as in a few other European countries a rather interesting model of the XE which had on it the E badges while on its windshield it had a FEV sticker.

FEV actually means a full electric vehicle which may mean that they are preparing the 2018 Jaguar XE-E, a rather interesting car which is going to go head to head with BMW’s 3 Series hybrid as well as Audi’s electric vehicles.

Changes

At this point in time there are very few details available about this upcoming XE but it seems that it will use the same platform as the usual car. However, it will get an all new engine while its exterior will suffer a few changes as well. The interior, for the most part, is going to remain unchanged which would make a lot of sense.

The Engine & Spirited Performance

In terms of engines, the 2018 Jaguar XE-E is likely going to make use of a newly developed plug-in hybrid powertrain which we may also see on the F-Pace and the larger sedans. This will use a diesel rather than a petrol engine as the main power-plant because it will give Jaguar better efficiency and it should allow the car to be just as fast. The main contender for this role would be a 2.0 liter turbocharged unit providing 275 horsepower and over 450 lb-ft of torque which will power the rear wheels only.

We also think that it will get not one but two different electric motors in order to provide the car all wheel drive. These will power each axle independently and they are going to be powered by a medium sized battery which should allow it to get around 50 to 70 miles of full electric range. After that, the diesel will step in and provide additional power for up to 700 miles or more!

MPG

The performance levels are going to be on par with those of an inline 4 petrol engined model with a 0 to 60 MPH time of less than 6 seconds and an estimated top speed of around 130 MPH, all while keeping a fuel consumption better than 45 MPG on average..

Modern and Refined Design

The exterior design will get a few changes as well in order to improve its efficiency so the front end will get more aerodynamic with the help of a new bumper and a lower air dam, the wheels will be smaller and equipped with low rolling resistance tires while in the back the XE-E will not feature a visible exhaust but instead, a clean looking bumper.

Interior

Inside the cabin, the 2018 Jaguar XE-E will very likely be pretty much identical to a normal petrol engined model with the only differences being that its infotainment and navigation unit will be offered as standard while the instrument cluster will be replaced by one that will be able to handle both the diesel and the two electric motors. There will be just enough room inside the cabin as before but we might see a smaller trunk due to the added batteries.

2018 Jaguar XE-E Release date & Price

Even though it still is early to tell what the release date may be, we are almost certain that the car will first be showcased at Geneva while in the US it should follow shortly after. The price will most definitely hover around $50,000 which is roughly $10,000 more than the price of a rather well equipped inline 4 sedan.

The biggest competitors are BMW ActiveHybrid 3 and Mercedes-Benz C350 Plug-In Hybrid.
